ENOUGH is enough.
From now on, let nobody declare that Singapore is a prudish country when it comes to sex.
From what I have been reading in the media recently, it seems that our once-shy island republic has had a sexual awakening of sorts.
Forget about bar-top dancing or sex shops selling adult toys and lingerie - that is old news.Topics currently in the spotlight are:
- Singaporeans who engage male strippers for brides-to-be for hen nights.
- Large exhibitions dedicated to sex and;
I am sorry if you nearly choked on your morning coffee, but you read the last point correctly.
It seems that there is a growing underground scene where private parties are organised.
At these parties, couples meet up, have dinner or a few drinks and then eventually decide if they want to crawl into bed with their new-found friend's husband or wife.
According to a Reuters report last week, there are about 10 swingers clubs in Singapore, with the largest one among them, United SG Swingers, reportedly having a stable of 6,000 members.
A word of caution - these clubs are certainly not for the faint-hearted.
Starting this year, the organisers apparently started holding parties in houses or hotel rooms with a strict clothes-off policy.
The eager beavers are separated into two groups. There are the hard swingers who are comfortable with switching partners, while the other group is made up of the soft swingers who prefer to be voyeurs or have sex with their own partners.
Sometimes, the party escalates into group sex or an orgy.
Whoa!
The fact that it has been happening in our backyard for years makes it even more impressive and intriguing.
Another local trend that made me sit up and take notice is that more female Singaporeans are organising hen nights for brides-to-be involving male strippers.
Sometimes, these strippers have even been ordered to do the full Monty in full view of a screaming female audience, who are now not content to just let the men have all the fun.
So guys, if you are out on your stag night, watch out.
Your fiancee may be having the time of her life with another man at her party.
Finally, if any of the participants mentioned above were looking at ways to spice up their already raunchy sex life, there was Sexpo 2006 that they could have attended last month.
Now in its second year, the exhibition aimed to 'provide Singapore and Asian visitors an entertaining and educational approach to understanding and improving sexual health and enhancing relationships', according to the website.
In short, it had everything and anything legal that you wanted with regards to sex under one roof.
But back to swingers - I was just about to drop in my membership form when common sense prevailed.
With the holiday season just round the corner, I would rather not catch a chill in my birthday suit.
Brrrr...
