>Has the spark gone out of your marriage? Don't brush off the possibilities you can come up with to surprise your spouse and re-ignite the romance that made you fall for each other in the beginning. Violet Lim, professional matchmaker, tells you how.
1) Book a short getaway - without the kids!
Cruising is an especially great idea as there are so many things you could do to rekindle the romance. Intimate cabins, decks for romantic moonlight strolls, lots of onboard activities and great entertainment, and not to mention the wonderful variety of food you can both indulge in.
2) Go back to basics.
Recreate your first date this Valentine's Day. Do you remember what you two were wearing? Where you went? What you talked about? Reminisce about your courtship days, and reflect on how far you have come as a couple.
3) A simple tip: turn off the TV.
Spend time doing something interactive together, such as taking a stroll in the neighbourhood, or just preparing a light meal for two together.
4) Kidnap your spouse.
Arrange for someone to help look after the kids, then plan a surprise for him or her. We all love surprises, big or small. It could be a candlelight dinner for two on the rooftop of a building overlooking the city skyline.
Or it could be a picnic at the Botanical Gardens as you both take in the sights of nature. The possibilities are endless!
5) Last but not least, write a love letter.
Love letters are almost extinct in the constant stream of emails and instant messenges that bombard today's society. This Valentine's Day, get some nice stationery, sit down and take the time to craft a love note.
Tell your partner ten things you love about him or her.
Or go down memory lane. Think about all the ups and downs you have experienced as a couple and celebrate your life together.
You can also take this chance to thank your spouse for all that s/he has done for you. Then put the letter in a place it can be "discovered" - such as under the pillow, or in the socks compartment.
