I COULDN'T agree more with Mr Leow Ju-Len's well-written commentary "You're vain, self-absorbed and shallow" (my paper, July 29), particularly his observation that there are "far too many men who are, at heart, little boys who always listen to their parents".
Yes, Singapore guys are not hot and romantic, but at least they are responsible and that is very important to a woman.
I tell my sons that girls who want to have fun are not serious and they can live without them. If a guy is serious about a relationship with a woman, then he must take her home to meet his parents. In fact, I strongly encourage my children to invite their friends home.
A woman might hate a guy for being a mummy's boy but, at the end of the day, he is the one who will stand by her, through thick and thin.
Such guys are also the ones who really treat a woman with respect. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't believe in sleeping around. If a guy can do it before marriage, what guarantee do you have that he won't do it after tying the knot?
I wouldn't want to live my life wondering where my guy is all the time. These days, it is a blessing to be married for 10 years. As for me, I count my blessings every year and I have never regretted marrying my husband, the provider and planner for the family.
So what if Singapore guys are not hot? One won't die because of that. To these guys, I say: Believe in yourself and you will find the right woman.
It is more mature and more important to be responsible than hot, and you will understand why as you grow older.
As a woman, I will choose a down-to-earth and responsible - albeit boring - guy over one who is hot and popular.
With the latter, you get more heartache and worries as you need to be on constant guard against other women. When a woman is dating, she might pick a guy who is hot and popular, but when she decides to get married, she is more likely to choose a responsible man.
The same goes for guys when it comes to choosing a wife.
