Q I'm 1.54m tall with a tummy, big thighs and broad shoulders. For my brother's wedding, I'm thinking of wearing a halter-style, empire-waist long gown. What do you think?
A Girlfriend, I would rethink the floor-length gown for practical reasons.
As the sister of the groom, you'll be running around a lot to help out. But because you're not tall, heels in your case are a must. So it's better for you to wear a cocktail dress and not worry about tripping on excess fabric.
I would even consider doing the pantsuit, as it gives you a lot of room to move.
Halter necks can be tricky. Depending on how broad the straps are and how deep they're cut in from the shoulders, they could emphasise your broad shoulders more - and even worse if you're fleshy up there.
But fret not, here are some ideas you can work with for your brother's big day. Happy shopping.

| Asymmetrical hems. If you must do a longer hemline, make sure it doesn't trip you. Pick one that's shorter in front, like this Diane von Furstenberg number. It covers your weak-spot, your thighs, while still giving you ease of movement. Another plus: It skims the tummy too.

Sheath dresses that skim. For less than perfect figures, think body-conscious but not skin-tight. Go for heavier jersey or knit fabrics that hang well, hug the silhouette and still allow you to breathe. A wide boatneck top shows off an elegant neck and collarbone.

Breezy pantsuits. Move freely and still look smart in a pantsuit. A deep V- neckline will draw attention away from broad shoulders, while busier prints at the sleeves and hemline do the same for other problem areas. This piece also has a generous cut, which will hide a paunch.
