>The Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Singapore wants couples here to "Say Yes!" to sexual responsibility. That's the message of its 2008 annual sexual health survey which was launched last week and will continue for three months.
Dr Beh Suan Tiong, president of the society, said: "The abortion rate in Singapore had been on the decline for more than 10 years until 2006, when it saw an increase."
The survey - conducted among young working adults and executives in their mid-20s to mid-30s - aims to find out the attitudes and practices of Singapore women towards contraception use.
Last year, the survey of 1,000 women found that young sexually active women showed high awareness of HIV/Aids and unwanted pregnancy risks from unprotected sex, but they did not always practise what they knew.
Of those who were sexually active, an estimated 20 per cent were not prepared for an unwanted pregnancy, yet did not use any contraceptive method.
The new survey findings will be announced before the end of the year.
