Who knew that nude can come in so many shades?

At hairdressing's most prestigious hair-dressing award on Wednesday, 15 of the brightest talents in the hairdressing industry in Singapore came to vie for top honours at the L'Oreal COlour Trophy Singapore 2007.

The awards is considered the Oscar's of the industry, and is a bi-annual event which regularly attracts the best and the brightest in the world of hairdressing.

This year, over 200 entries were submitted for the competition.

The competition requires contestants to use creativity and innovation to combine fashion, make-up and hairdressing to create a complete look.

Using nude colours as the theme for this year's competition, the 15 finalists created looks that ranged from subtle to glamourous.

Taking top spot this year was a relative unknown who did not come from the usual big name salons.

Vivien Gun (top picture), from hair salon Cabello Casa, took top spot with her model's full head of platinum blonde hair.

Chief Judge Bertram Kainzer, who has worked with major fashion magazines and celebrities such as Kate Moss, Nadja Auermann and Akec Wek, and on fashion shows by Helmut Lang, Balenciaga, Issey Miyake and Dior, said:"The overall look was fantastic. The hair colour that the model was sporting was hard to create and definitely unexpected for its perfect results to be shown on Asian hair.

"It represented the nude theme perfectly. The dress presentation was mind-blowing too. Everything was so perfect that I could use that model on stage at that moment for my own show!"

Presenting her creation of a short bob with a chin-length cascading fringe, her interpretation of nude colours won her a trip to UK, $5,000 cash prize and a chance to compete against other hairdressers at international level in the UK Colour Trophy.

Mr Kainzer also presented his own interpretation of L'Oreal Professionel Spring/Summer 2007 Trend Collection: Nude Colours, complete with a hair-dressing demo.

First runner-up was Lucas Wong from Pure Colour Studio, who also won the subsidiary Style Trend award, while Jackie Ng from Toni & Guy (The Heeren) was second runner-up, who won the I-weekly award.
