NOW is the time to be stocking up on everything for work, with great deals on work clothes, shoes and bags fit for the office.
Financial planner Vincent Lim, for instance, will be hitting the sales to find corporate wear such as pants and shirts.
The 30-year-old says that he often finds good deals during the GSS, with pants fit for the office going for as low as $70. Women hitting the sales will be glad too, with dresses going for as low as under $30.
When it comes to workwear, stylists' advice is to follow classic trends. Celebrity stylist Jorge Ramon, who hosts reality show I Have Nothing To Wear, says a well-fitting white shirt is a must-have staple in the wardrobe.
It can be paired with trousers for the office, and even with denim on days off.
Women, take heed - experts say you shouldn't look too sexy in the office. A 2007 survey reported in Allure magazine showed that when men and women saw videotapes of the same women dressed provocatively business suit, they assumed she was a competent receptionist but not a competent manager.
Sexual stereotypes based on clothing still exist, so pick pieces that skim the body but don't hug the curves too much.
"The styles, colours, lengths and fit of your fashion choices will speak volumes about your ability to do your job," warns writer Cynthia Nellis for About.com.
"If you are concerned about your career, you'll be more concerned with looking professional than looking cute or trendy."
Remember that manicured nails, run-free stockings, scuff-free shoes and neat hair all play a part in your corporate image. Clothing trends in the workplace right now for women call for tailored suits, shifts and slim skirts. A cute cropped jacket dresses a little black dress up easily as well.
Avoid frills, see-through pieces and over-the-top detail, such as beading. For men, the classic corporate look - a smart suit jacket, a good shirt and matching pants - goes a long way.
Think GQ - as in the magazine - if you're still unsure about what the look is all about. The magazine touts stylish looks for men on every cover.
"When we were kids, if someone dressed nicely, we said they were GQ," said singer John Legend in a New York Times article.
See the latest runway looks for men online at the official website for Details and GQ (http://men.style.com/fashion/) and also trawl online forum www.styleforum.net, which discusses men's clothing. There, you can learn about the best interview suits, to guides on how shirts should fit.
