10 reasons to visit the Singapore International Jewellery Show 2008
Back for the fourth time, the Singapore International Jewellery Show (SIJS) promises to be a lavish presentation for those with expensive taste in art and jewellery.
From Aug 21 to 24, 2008, the public will be treated to a showcase of leading local and international jewellery, gems and accessories producers, manufacturers and suppliers at Suntec Singapore. A total of $100 million worth of jewellery will be on display, as 148 exhibitors from 30 countries will be on hand to showcase their wares. There will be jewellery fashion shows as well as appreciation talks to tempt and excite.
First-time highlights for visitors to this super-luxe event include an exhibition of artworks by Thomas Diego Armonia. an Italian artist based in Paris who has grown in prominence in recent years for his distinctive style of painting women in black and white, and adorned by the glitter of real gold.

1) VIP Lounge for your very own private viewing sessions. Also, admire Parisian artist Thomas Diego Armonia's renderings of beautiful women in black and white, some of which are embellished with gold leaf for that extra shine. There is also a series of paintings on show by the artist as his tribute to the Olympic spirit.
2) A rare nine-carat pear-shaped flawless pink diamond ring, priced at US$1.5m, by DeGem.

Costing an estimated US$35,000, this pair of leather sneakers laminated with gold leaf is definitely a head-turner. The company also produces gold clutch bags and purses too.

If you have US$178,000 to spare, this is a housewarming gift that will get your hosts all warmed up to you. Although not made for sale, its makers will be quite glad to make another couple more if you really so desire.
It weighs in at a hefty 1.5 kg, since it is made of solid gold and is encrusted with a total of 13 carats of brillant-cut diamonds.

8) Showcase of winning entries of the Rotary Jewelry Design Awards. This design award encourage design students to explore their creativity. This year's theme is "The Modern Men"
9) World's most expensive piano
In line with the theme of beauty and art, the piano makes its appearance as an instrument known for producing beautiful music. Prices for a Fazioli, an upstart in the world of concert grand pianos, can run up to $409,000 and has carved a reputation for itself as a high-end grand piano.
The exhibition is held at Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Level 4, Halls 403 and 404 from today until Aug 24, 2008. Admission is free to public.
