Stef Sun releases "I'm okay" video

STEFANIE Sun thanked her supporters for their concern over her recent scare in Egypt via a video clip e-mailed to the media yesterday.

In the 55-second clip sent by her record company EMI, she looked calm but did not give many details on what happened in Cairo.

The Singapore singer was there to film music videos for her new album, Against The Light, to be released on March 21.

According to earlier reports from Taiwan, she was supposed to go to Alexandria for more filming. But when she and her team decided to remain in Cairo, the guide was unhappy and threatened them verbally.

Other reports said she was threatened at gunpoint by local gangsters and then robbed of cash.

In the clip, Sun, who wore a simple pink T-shirt and had her back against a bare wall, said in Mandarin that she is safe back home in Singapore. She then clarified that she "did not have direct contact with the local guide and working personnel there".

"As for the gun incident, I heard from my team that they suspected this person (the guide) of carrying a gun," she said.

She expressed her appreciation to Singapore's Ambassador to Egypt, Mr Wong Kwok Pun, for the help rendered.

She ended by saying that Egypt was a "beautiful country" and she would still like to visit it again to experience "the awe of its ancient civilisation".

She cut short her trip and flew back to Singapore on Wednesday evening on a Cathay Pacific flight with her mother and security personnel.

She did not want to be interviewed about the scare by reporters at the airport, including a TV crew which had flown in from Taiwan, but did say she was happy to be home.

Sun, 28, and her 22-member team were supposed to be in Eygpt to shoot in Cairo and Alexandria from last Friday to tomorrow.

Reports from Taiwan said the cancellation cost EMI more than NT$8 million (S$370,000). The average cost of a trip to shoot music videos overseas is about NT$4 million to NT$5 million, according to a TVBS report.

Yesterday, Sun's manager, Marcia Tan, told Life! the singer is fine but "a little tired".

She added that Sun is likely to rest here for a couple of days before flying to Taipei to hold a press conference.
