FANN Wong is finally getting married - although she doesn't want to reveal details.
In May's issue of Her World magazine, the MediaCorp actress admitted she has accepted the marriage proposal of longtime beau, actor Christopher Lee, 36. She was interviewed for her new movie, Dance Of The Dragon, which premiered at The Cathay last night.
Asked about nuptial plans, she told Her World's reporter:
"I think it should be quite soon. Actually, Chris has already proposed and I've accepted. Oh my gosh, you are the first journalist I've told."
She then added: "I can't go into details but all I can say is that it was quite romantic."
At a press conference for the movie yesterday at Marina Mandarin hotel, she played coy.
A journalist tried probing, but was immediately hushed by Fann's manager. "Questions about the movie only, please," said the manager in Mandarin.
Fann, 37, gave just a sweet smile in response.
Celebrity friends, from actress Zoe Tay to hairstylist David Gan, have been publicly egging the two to tie the knot.
Gan, who will be styling the couple for the occasion, told my paper he is glad that Fann and Lee are finally walking down the aisle.
He said he knew about the proposal about two months ago.
Originally the wedding was set to be in December, but the couple have pushed it back to a later, undetermined date.
Gan added: "They should not rush it. It must be a beautiful and perfect wedding."
While Fann keeps mum about her wedding now, she is open with her relationship with Jang Hyuk, her Korean co-star in Dance.
Fann plays a ballroom dancing instructor, and Jang Hyuk is Tae Kwon, a dance-obsessed youth, who falls for her.
It also stars American-Chinese actor Jason Scott Lee as Fann's jealous boyfriend.
She recalled her first dance rehearsal with Jang: "I was nervous when I first met him. We had very little time to understand each other's bodies."
To overcome the initial awkwardness, Jang Hyuk asked Fann out for a dinner and they became closer.
By the time filming wrapped up, they even had nicknames for each other.
Fann's choice term of endearment for the actor: mei mei, or little sister in Chinese.
Grinning, she said she had coined it after she learnt that he was referring to her as "pretty sister" in Korean to his manager and translator the whole time.
"I thought it would also be a useful phrase for him to use on girls but I guess he doesn't need it," she joked about Jang, who is married with a toddler son.
Dance Of The Dragon opens on May 1.
