THE deed was done at a gathering on the second day of Chinese New Year.
MediaCorp actor Christopher Lee, 36, got down on his knees and asked long-time girlfriend, actress Fann Wong 37, for her hand, with close friends and her family as witnesses.
Christopher: "If I reveal everything now, it won't be a surprise for her," he said sweetly. "And yes, she likes surprises."
A beaming Lee confirmed the proposal yesterday at a press conference at Sinema @ Old School for his upcoming Channel 8 TV series Rhythm Of Life.
The local press bombarded him with questions, after Fann told Her World magazine's May issue that she had said yes.
In a white tank top and olive green overalls, Lee good-naturedly filled in the details which his fiancee coyly declined to give a day earlier.
He had initially planned to surprise her on Valentine's Day with the ring.
"I wanted to book the entire restaurant, but her schedule did not allow it," he said in jest.
"Every time when I checked if she's free, she's either working, or not in Singapore.
"So only during Chinese New Year, when everyone is around, I could propose."
The occasion took place at a gathering of about 20 people.
"Fann was shy, but touched,and said yes immediately," he recalled her reaction.
While he revealed that he had help from good friend, celebrity hairstylist David Gan, in picking the two-carat diamond ring, he fobbed off questions about its colour and price.
"How big can I afford? he joked.
"Sincerity is most important."
As for details on the wedding ceremony, he is keeping mum.
"If I reveal everything now, it won't be a surprise for her," he said sweetly. "And yes, she likes surprises."
