At least that's the rule of thumb when it comes to celebrity divorces. Ex-model, reality TV star and fashion designer Kimora Lee is set to receive US$480,000 (S$653,000) a year in child support from soon-to-be ex-husband, hip-hop mogul and Def Jam founder Russell Simmons.
Their kids, Ming Lee, eight, and Aoki Lee, five, are in sole custody of Kimora, 33. Russell, 50, i s required to pay US$20,000 per child per month in child support (which stops when each reaches the age of 191/2).
And once they can drive, he is required to buy or lease a car valued at US$60,000 or more for each of the girls once every 24 months, said news agencies.
Kimora, CEO of the Baby Phat clothing line, cited irreconcilable differences when she filed for divorce from Russell in March after nearly 10 years of marriage.
Madonna, who is reportedly in talks with a divorce lawyer after seven years of marriage to Guy Ritchie, can also expect to dish out the big bucks, according to The Times of London.
She is worth around US$590 million, and is reportedly not protected by a pre-nuptial agreement.
Though female stars like Janet Jackson have ponied up settlements to their ex-husbands, the biggest payouts by far come from men, said Forbes.com.
And sometimes, they are happy to shell out.
Marcia Murphey, who walked away with US$150 million, was "worth every penny", according to Neil Diamond, her husband of 25 years.
Even Russell, despite being just as hard hit with his own court ruling, has taken things graciously. "My kids live a tremendous life," he said in a statement.
"They do have lots of security, nannies, educators, special programmes, travel, chefs, on and on. Their mother manages all of those luxuries and I'm happy to provide for that."
