SHE made her mark in the '80s, starring in many Hong Kong drama serials and movies, and was even rumoured to be comedian Stephen Chow's then-girlfriend.
But Hong Kong actress Jacqueline Law is soon to have a permanent connection to Singapore.
Apple Daily reported that the 37-year-old actress will marry Singaporean stockbroking magnate Liu Chee Ming in Hong Kong next month.
Mr Liu is the managing director of Platinum Holdings Company.
The ceremony, to be held on 12 Aug, is only for close friends and relatives.
Among these friends is Singaporean actress Aileen Tan, who will be one of Jacqueline's bridemaids.
Jacqueline had reportedly brought a specially tailored gown to Singapore for Aileen to try on, reported Lianhe Wanbao.
'I've no choice. I don't have the time to fly to Hong Kong. But I had taken leave long time ago (to be her bridesmaid),' Aileen told the newspaper.
Aileen, who's busy filming a new show, added that she's relieved that the news is finally out.
Apple Daily reported that the 37-year-old actress will marry Singaporean stockbroking magnate Liu Chee Ming in Hong Kong next month
She said: 'We've kept the secret for her for too long. We're all very happy that she's getting married, although we knew of it some time ago.'
The couple is said to have kept the romance under wraps for as long as eight years.
When asked what would be her wedding present, Aileen said that she had been told by Jacqueline to 'go empty-handed'.
Said Aileen: 'Jacqueline said that we're like sisters and, to her, my flying over there for her wedding is already the biggest gift.'
Aileen met Jacqueline on the set of The Blazing Trail in the early '90s.
They kept in touch and in 1999, when Jacqueline came to Singapore for an ear operation after a diving mishap, she stayed with Aileen while she was recuperating.
It was also then that she was introduced to her prospective husband at a gathering.
In 2000, they were pictured having a meal together, but Jacqueline insisted that they were just friends.
Aileen praised Mr Liu as a responsible man who would make an excellent spouse.
Another of Jacqueline's friends echoed Aileen's comments, adding that Mr Liu 'cares a lot for Jacqueline, and is a low-profile person'.
That was why they kept the relationship quiet, probably because they were worried that over-zealous paparazzi reports might spoil the budding romance.
LOW PROFILE
However, Jacqueline has appeared at social functions as Mr Liu's partner.
On the Platinum website, Mr Liu is said to have 'over 30 years of experience in financial services sector including stockbroking, corporate finance and portfolio management'.
He is also an independent non-executive director of companies such as StarHub and Robinson and Co.
He's also the governor of the Singapore International School in Hong Kong.
Although Mr Liu doesn't wish to be in the limelight, he is said to be encouraging of Jacqueline's showbiz career.
One of her upcoming projects will be HK director Ann Hui's latest work literally translated as Mist of Love, in which she plays a victim of domestic violence.
When contacted by Apple Daily on Monday, Jacqueline kept mum about her coming nuptials.
When asked if she was getting married, she kept laughing, but did confirm that she would wrap up filming by end July and has kept the early part of August free.
