HONG KONG - All eyes were not just on Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Carina Lau at their Bhutan nuptials, but also on their youngest guest, Faye Wong's daughter Li Yan, two. So wrote a guest, former actress Lin Ching-hsia, in an essay for Ming Pao Weekly.
Among scenes she described from the festivities at Uma Paro resort last month was how she and Lau danced barefoot at the banquet. The bride also prompted the groom to perform, saying: 'Don't act cool. Sing a song.'
Besides the couple, little Yan, who had corrective surgery for a cleft lip, was also the centre of attention, wrote Lin. 'She has expressive eyes, an innocent face and a confident smile. This child is really like a little living Buddha.'
The girl was also awfully attached to her mother, said Lin. Wong had to carry her daughter, even as she was singing the Teresa Teng standard Honey Sweet at the banquet. She refused to be handed over to her father, actor Li Yapeng, and Lau helped Wong by holding the toddler's knees during the performance.
Wong and Lin are among Lau's closest friends.
In her essay, Lin said she admires Lau's generosity and loyalty. She wrote that when Lau was in a predicament a few years ago, she advised her to 'face it, accept it, deal with it, lay it down', and Lau has been thankful since.
