Jacqueline Law has hush-hush wedding

THE music was soft and soothing.

Many layers of colourful bunting adorned the hall, adding to the splendour at the wedding dinner of Hong Kong actress Jacqueline Law, 41, and her Singaporean beau, Mr Liu Chee Ming, 57, on Tuesday.

But it wasn't all just for show.

Guests might not have realised it, but the additional bunting was there for another reason.

It was to absorb sound and keep the noise level low, so that Jacqueline, who is partially deaf in the right ear and wears a hearing aid on that side, will not end up with a headache on her bignight.

She is completely deaf in her left ear.

Her hearing was affected after a diving accident off Papua New Guinea in 1999.

The wedding in Hong Kong was thus marked by quiet tones.

There was no boisterous toasting, minimal clinking of wine glasses, and anything that raised the sound level a decibel was frowned upon.

SOFT JAZZ

During the day, piped string music played softly, while at night, guests were treated to the sound of soothing jazz.

These arrangements show what a thoughtful husband Mr Liu is, reported Apple Daily Hong Kong.

Jacqueline, who has only 20per cent of hearing left in her right ear, met him while she was recovering from her ear operation done in Singapore in 1999.

MrLiu is the managing director of Platinum Holdings Company, a financial service solutions provider based in Hong Kong, with offices in Singapore and Shanghai.

They had kept their relationship under wraps until last month.

Jacqueline had said 'yes' to MrLiu several years ago, when hehad proposed with a double-heart-shaped ring.

But on Tuesday, she wore a diamond-encrusted ring with a huge pearl.

Mr Liu, whose first wife died many years ago, has two sons.

They served as his best men at the ceremony.

Mr Liu appeared as jittery as a first-timer at the morning wedding held at St John's Cathedral in Hong Kong's Central district, said the report.

TEARS FLOW

Mr Liu was seen perspiring profusely, and when Jacqueline lovingly dabbed the beads of perspiration on his forehead, he was so touched that he cried.

Jacqueline couldn't hold back her tears either.

The couple arrived at the cathedral at 10.45am in a Rolls Royce. Sheltered under a red umbrella, Jacqueline entered the building with Mr Liu beside her.

She wore a revealing wedding gown that also showed off her back, while Mr Liu was in a tuxedo with a silver vest.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds posed outside the cathedral for photographs.

Mr Liu was heard repeatedly saying: 'So touching, so touching.'

The couple will go to Beijing for their honeymoon and will get to watch the closing ceremony of the Olympics on 24 Aug.

Jacqueline, who had five different looks for the day, told the media before the wedding dinner: 'I kept mum about the wedding intially as I respect the wishes of my husband.'

When asked about the many times the couple wept during the ceremony, Jacqueline said: 'They are tears of joy and shared by many of our dearest friends.'

She added that she will continue acting after her wedding, a decision her husband supports.
