Male model shortage: Ashley Burnhardt

ASHLEY BURNHARDT, 19

Agency: Mannequin

Race: Pan-Asian. His mother is half-British and half-German while his late father was Chinese

Height: 1.82m

Career start: 2006. His mother is famed 1970s model Francis Kay Burnhardt. Her friends at Mannequin roped the young Burnhardt in the minute he completed his growth spurt at age 17.

Day job: First-year interactive digital media student at Republic Polytechnic

Claim to fame: He was one of the few Singaporean faces at the recently concluded Singapore Fashion Festival, walking in the Blueprint show. He has also done a commercial for international freight company DHL

Favourite thing about modelling: 'That high you get when you're on the catwalk. Suddenly everything you've trained for becomes worth it.'

Least favourite thing about modelling: 'Not being able to sustain the friendships you form with foreign models you meet on the job.'

How long do you see yourself modelling?: 'Into my late 20s or early 30s because that's the average expiry date of most models. Of course, if I could model after that, I would.'

Fun facts: All four of his siblings, two sisters and two brothers - aged between 13 and 21 - are also models.
