The New Paper New Face 2008 winner, Shahirah Price, was a favourite among judges and last year's New Face finalists. But it wasn't just her unique looks and endearing personality that won her the title.
Dressed in a black-laced couture dress, Price rocked the runway with confidence by being comfortable with herself.
"I know I can do it" were the words the 18-year-old drummed into her head throughout the competition, and that proved to be a powerful winning formula.
When AsiaOne asked Price if she was confident about winning, the earnest marketing student from
Nanyang Polytechnic said that gaining confidence was the most challenging part.
"I was planning to strut my best and walk the runway as hard as I can, hoping that I will make it."
On winning, Price said she was shocked and happy, yet relieved that the mind-boggling competition was over.
Price's biggest fans were her parents who were present at the night's event with Shahirah's grandmother.
"We knew that she would win. She had personality and style. Whatever she wore, she looked great," said the very proud Mr Price.
"Her confidence is outstanding," said Shahirah's mother.
The fresh-faced budding talent is going to take some of the confidence she's gained from this experience in her pursuit of a modeling career. Shahirah also mentioned that she intends explore modeling opportunities overseas.
"You have to have the confidence to do what you want and if you don't believe in yourself, I don't think anything can be accomplished," she said.
Besides taking home the top prize, Price was also one of the five girls selected to model for Takashimaya's annual fashion show which will be held this weekend.
