Jiawei engaged to businessman

Following a six-month whirlwind romance, Li Jiawei is set to tie the knot.

The China-born Singaporean table tennis star registered her marriage with a Beijing-based businessman in the Chinese capital last Friday.

The news was a surprise to many, coming so soon after Li and national badminton player Ronald Susilo called off their engagement in January.

According to The Sunday Times, Jiawei's new love interest is in his mid-30s and shares the same surname as her.
They were introduced by a mutual friend in March this year.

He is also said to have a conisderably higher earning power than Susilo, 29.

It was also reported that during the Beijing Olympics, she took him to the Althletes' Village as a guest, where she introduced him to the Singapore team officials and atheletes.

He has also been to Singapore several times and her accompanied her to places like Marina Bay and the Esplanade.

The Sunday Times reported that the last time he flew to the Lion City was a few weeks ago, where he spent several days with her, before the two left for Beijing around Sept 20.
