Dowry may go up for Selangor Muslims

MUSLIMS getting married in Selangor next year may have to pay more dowry following the State Religious Department's proposal to review the rates, reported Kosmo!

Department director Datuk Mohamed Kushrin Munawi said the current rates were RM80 for first-time brides and RM40 for divorcees or widows.

"The rates have not changed since 1978. It is time for a review as many other states have also increased their dowries.

"However, it is still in the planning stage and will require ample scrutiny before it is implemented next year," said Mohamed Kushrin.
