What can I do to ease a sunburn?

Q: What can I do to ease a sunburn?

A: Bushmen use aloe vera gel for its natural skin calming and hydrating properties. You can pick this up at organic supermarts or pharmacies - try Jorubi Aloe Vera Gel ($11.20, from Guardian stores).

Clarins SOS Sunburn Soother, ($65, from Tangs Orchard) works just as well. The non-sticky balm soothes and repairs overexposed and raw skin, and reduces redness.

It uses shea and mango butter, both of which are rich in essential fatty acids to help repair the skin. It also has avocado extracts that are said to reactivate collagen activity to prevent premature ageing.
