Brazil's history and its contemporary culture is bridged by Mr Carlos Miele in his collection which references his Brazilian roots as well as distils the urban environment.
Born in Sao Paulo, Mr Miele presented his last 12 fashion shows in New York, and is favoured by celebrities like Camilla Belle, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Heidi Klum and Iman.
The Spring/Summer 2008 collection is inspired by the historical encounter between Frank Sinatra and the Brazilian musician Tom Jobim in 1960. Mr Miele's fascination with the female form is accentuated "in the lightness and flow of his gowns that are as sensual as bossa nova's fluid pulse". The rich colours are inspired by exotic fruits, mixed with photographic prints of his travels and traditional Brazilian elements such as Renaissance lace, crochet and "fuxico" rosettes.
On his first visit to Singapore, he says: "I am very excited about it. I hope to have the chance to know more about the local culture and the local designers and models that I haven't had the chance to meet."
