As any regular party-goer knows, every great night out has its consequences.
From hangovers, to bad skin, to massive weight gain, there is no doubt that the after-effects of too much alcohol can take their toll on our bodies.
Reveals Dr SK Tan, the DRx Group's senior medical director: 'Lack of sleep or rest and excessive consumption of alcohol and other unhealthy substances take their toll on the body with short-term manifestations and long-term repercussions.
'Superficial symptoms like dark eye rings, dehydration and sometimes break-outs, may become apparent immediately. Deterioration of skin tone, texture and evenness may occur with persistent abuse.'
That is not to say that drinking should be outlawed altogether for what good party would it be with dead sober people around?
Rather, the trick, it seems, is to simply drink smart.
For example, to have healthier night outs, dietitian Bibi Chia has the following suggestions.
She says: 'One gram of alcohol is seven calories whereas one gram of fat is nine calories, so they are really comparable! People who are weight-conscious should choose mixes such as diet Coke or soda as opposed to normal Coke or Sprite that are just pure calories. Also, choose orange juice because it has Vitamin C or cranberry juice because it prevents urinary tract infection, or even milk - at least there's some calcium inside your drink.'
More importantly, to prevent excessive drinking, she advises alternating each alcoholic drink with a non-alcoholic one, a trick that she shares with her clients.
'Apart from drinking a lot of fluids (because alcohol dehydrates your body) and sleep, there is no real way to cure a hangover,' she concedes.
'However, look out for products that contain supplements like milk thistle and Vitamin B because they help support your liver.'
Body aside, one of the most common problems with alcohol consumption is that it damages skin cells and stresses our skin out by causing dehydration and flakiness.
Seeing a potential market rising out of this, beauty houses have been quick to come up with a whole slew of products specially designed to save the skin after being exposed to skin aggressors like smoke, air-conditioning and alcohol.
For example, Clinique's Moisture Surge Refreshing Eye Mask contains aloe-activated water that increases the extent and duration of hydration throughout the skin to help it function optimally. Izu's Hydrating Gel aids the skin in the healing of broken capillaries and softens fine lines, and over at Guerlain, their whole line of Issima Midnight products was specifically designed for night-time revellers.
Also, to avoid tell-tale signs of heavy partying such as sallow, tired complexions the morning after, Dr Haushcka's Rhythmic Night Conditioner is an oil-free night-time treatment that was designed to stimulate healthy circulation giving vitality, life and colour to skin.
Should all that fail, working women desperate for a quick pick-me-up after a Wednesday ladies night can try La Mer's The Mist - a few spritzes of which give the skin the energy it needs due to the live magnet in the product that charges the formula.
In fact, so lucrative is the 'save yourself after a night out' market that even the spas have joined in on the game.
For those too lazy to slather on beauty products themselves, head down to True Spa for their Hangover-Buster Package (P.P $289, U.P $578) that does all your post-clubbing salvage work for you by pumping you with fresh fruit juice, soaking your body in a goat's milk hydrobath to sweat out your toxins, promoting lymphatic circulation via a bergamot soft cream body scrub and a Swedish massage and giving you a moisture surge facial.
Alternatively, there is Sky Fitness's Hangover Retreat ($98 for members, $118 for non-members) that includes a welcome drink, a yoga or myofascial release session, an aromatheraphy massage, sauna, and one hangover sandwich and drink and House's Kiva Sweat Lodge($80) - a group session treatment using crystal and mineral infused mud to promote detoxification.
Finally, DRx MediSpa has a new Mind & Body Rejuvenation programme combining Airnergy to increase the body's use of oxygen, a Flotation REST to relieve strained muscles and tired bones and a massage to soothe and revitalise your senses. Cost: $288 (for those on The DRx Patrons Programme) and upwards.
Not cheap, but for the desperate post-party clubber, it's probably money well spent.
