Thousands of women thronged the Esplanade Bridge this morning for the Shape Run this morning.
With Dr Amy Khor, Mayor of South West District, flagging off the run at 7.30am, women of all shapes and sizes started off on the 5km and 10km challenges. Dr Khor also joined the participants in the 5km run after the flag off.
The route began at the Esplanade and took runners down Shenton Way before the 10km participants continued on into Marina South. More than 2,000 runners competed in the tougher 10km category this year, which was close to twice the number for 2006.
The 10km category winner is Australian accountant Suzy Walsham, 33, who clocked in at 34 minutes: 37 seconds. She won a cash prize of $1,000 and over $12,000 worth of products.
British finance director Anna Helowicz, 34, won the 5km race with a timing of 21 minutes: 06 seconds. She received $500 cash and $8,400 worth of products.
All 6,000 spaces were snapped up within 12 days of registration opening on 22 June 07.
Runners also received a Runner's Kit worth $1,000 each.
