1. Be honest and open with potential employers on your medical status when you are pregnant. In many instances, withholding information about your pregnancy during employment interviews can lead to situations of perceived unfair dismissal.

2. Show enthusiasm for your job, commitment to your work and a willingness to help your colleagues even when you are pregnant. It will signal to your employers that you still value your work.

3. Be willing to discuss alternatives if you are working for a smaller organisation that cannot afford to allow you too long a period of maternity leave.

For example, converting the third month of maternity leave or opting for sick child leave will help the organisation to save operating cost, and allow you flexibility too when you need time off to tend to your young child in its first year.

4. Contact the MOM for help if you feel you have been unfairly dismissed.
