From Leung An Li :

My mum is a Superwoman. In her mid-40s, she is very sporty, successful in her career, spends time and relates well with my brother and I, and cooks great dishes too.

Unlike many women in her age group, my mum exercises every day - swimming, jogging, cycling or hitting the gym. She is swelte, with a BMI of 20 and standing at a nice height of 1.65m. She has an athletic build. Her tummy is completely flat and she has toned, slim thighs without a hint of cellulite. She dresses fashionably, often wearing super-short denim shorts to the supermarket and shopping centres.

She is also successful in her career - holding a senior managerial position in an educational institution. Many may think that she works very long hours in such a demanding job, but she does not. On most evenings, she is home by 7pm, having dinner with us to catch up on the day's events or just chatting. She attributes this to good time management and the ability to prioritise her work effectively. Weekends are always reserved for us except for the rare Saturdays where she will be at work.

My mum relates very well to us. She enjoys songs by Gwen Stefani, Beyonce and Corrine Bailey Rae, and hip hop stuff from P.Diddy and Eminem. We spend many weekends watching YouTube videos and visiting CD shops buying the latest albums. She is also up-to-date with all the latest electronic gadgets and she enjoys a game of XBox 360 with us, especially the car racing games.

She cares a lot for our studies too, and she actively engages with our teachers to find out about our progress in school. She sits in the parent support group, and regularly volunteers at my school to give talks to my schoolmates.

My mum is a great cook as well. She makes delicious laksa with cockles, mee soto, fish head assam curry, Hainanese chicken rice, salted vegetable and duck with salted plums, and an assortment of desserts from bobo cha cha to aloe vera jelly.

Mum, you rock! Happy Mother's Day! I love you!

I love my mum for everything that makes her who she is.

From Mr Ong Ching Pau :

My mom is the most special person in my life; she is just simply the best!

I always treated her like my best mate, whom I can joke with, "bully", make fun of, kid around with.

She was my family's unselfish caretaker. She worked in order to put up food on the table, paid for my siblings' tuition fees, school fees and provide for the family, even though she only had a Primary 6 level education.

She became the sole provider when dad's business folded. She worries for us and provided the best. She even went hungry to save every cent of her hard-earned salary for us to live on and spend.

All my siblings and I have gone through proper education because of her's and dad's efforts.

She was always there to solve problems and help out no matter how hard the going got.

I really respect her for taking care of us, because she loved us.

On this special occasion, I wish to remember her as the best mom in the world and wish that God will bless her and keep her where ever she is.

She is simply irreplaceable.

From Ong Hui Leng Jean :

My mum is a woman of diligence and perseverance. She never fails to be there for her family.

After work, she???ll display her love for the family by quietly doing the housework and cooking for us.

She is strict when there is a need for her to, but she is caring as well.

She will rebuke me whenever I am ill-disciplined and she???ll compliment me whenever I show improvement in my character.

When I was younger, she was always there to guide me in my studies. I remember vividly that after every exam period, she???ll always prepare a bottle of chicken essence for my younger sister and I to drink. A

Apart from that, she would brew bird???s nest and ginseng soup to nourish our health.

My mum displays her perseverance through her belief in her children. I used to throw tantrums at her when I was stressed in school and had conflicts with friends, but she chose to let her grace take over and spur me on to handle these life issues well.

I am grateful to my mum for all these 21 years of upbringing. My mum rocks!

Evangeline Nar Yia Shi :

That moment when her chest seized with pain, her very thoughts were not about the pain, but "my family needs me". My mom had a heart attack five years ago. Two of her major arteries were blocked and she had to go under the knife immediately. My mom broke down, not because of the pain, but because she was worried she would not be there for us.

We used to complain that mom was naggy. But when her heart problem threatened to her away from us, we felt vulnerable, frightened and felt that we had taken her for granted. It was not easy to manage multiple roles - as a good mother, a dutiful wife and a hardworking employee, given her weak health. Yet, she never shirked her responsibilities. She always strove to provide us with the best she can afford, be it life's little luxuries or nurturing us emotionally. She may be an ordinary woman whose only wish is to keep her family together, but was a remarkable mother who nurtured three children, now grown.

We are thankful that she is still with us today, to provide a listening ear, shared my joy when I delivered my baby, and celebrate all the different festivities, even just being around to watch TV with the family.

We just want to say to her: "Thank you for being here."

Juliana Vanita Sankaran :

My mum rocks because:
- she made me learn Chinese
- she would bring us on short holidays in Singapore by taking advantage of hotel promotions so we got to stay at places like Shangri-La and the Westin, and be tourists for a few days.
- she brought us on our 1st Cruise to Nowhere - she gave me the opportunity to study at the college of my choice - she helped me get through the most difficult summer job i had in my time abroad at college" selling study guides door to door(!?) " she wrote me letters of encouragement, and sent me my father's "Greatest Salesman in the World" books as inspirational reads.
- she brought us to see the Osmonds and Air Supply at the National Stadium
- she let me design my 1st communion outfit and had it tailored for me to wear on that day
- she brought us for walks every night after dinner
- she brought home doughnuts from yaohan or rojak from outram park after her morning shift or kuey chap from Siglap Market after her night shift
- she is retired but she still works as a part-time nurse just because she enjoys what she does
-she drinks coffee in the morning to wake up and enjoys a coffee at night before she sleeps at night
- she brought us to the 1st opening of McDonald's at Liat Towers
- she brought us to see "Star Wars" at Capitol Theater
- she was my co-pilot during my inaugural long distance drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco and she kept me company the whole journey and, did not fall asleep once.
- she loves to travel and does whenever she can
- she is always up to share a late night snack with
- she gave us skipping ropes one christmas so we can all get fit by skipping together
- she taught my daughter how to somersault
- she still looks great in a sari
- she was "dragon-lady-disciplinarian-stare-of-death-don't-spare-the-rod" mother to now "sleep-during-movies-read-dictionary-to-win-at-scrabble" mummy.

Above all, my mother rocks because she loves life and is enjoying every bit of it by being the person she is. I love my dragon lady.
