Motherhood? Not thinking of it

So says celebrity Michelle Chia. She is still a career girl at heart and will not stop working to become a stay-at-home mum. -AsiaOne

Zoe Tay's done it. Other famous local personalities such as Quan Yifeng, Pan Ling Ling, Vivian Lai and May Phua have done it. Become working mums, that is.

Michelle's tips for a long and fruitful career
  1. Develop a high emotional quotient.
  2. Be positive - you never know what will happen next; the winds may change in favour tomorrow.
  3. Persevere. Don't let bad experiences get you down.
  4. Always be prepared. Have a backup plan and keep improving yourself. Learn something new or at least save up for a rainy day.
  5. Stay true to yourself.

A more recent example was Huang Biren, who took it a step further and quit her job to be a stay-at-home mum to devote time and energy to her two children, including her five-month-old little girl.

And with the just-introduced Marriage and Parenthood Package, the Government has given goodies to entice more women to take the plunge into motherhood by making it easier to find a work-life balance and for women to juggle between having babies and a career.

But despite all the carrots being dangled, prolific celebrity Michelle Chia is certain she will not be jumping on the baby bandwagon so soon, even with news of her upcoming marriage to fellow actor Shaun Chen, 30.

In an interview with Simply Her, Michelle said "I won't stop working after marriage, have kids and become a stay-at-home mum".

Rather than focus on the future, she would rather focus on the blessings that she has now. Such as her man, Shaun.

The couple, who have been dating for the past four years, have confirmed that they will be tying the knot next year.

When he became unemployed after MediaCorp and Mediaworks merged, she chose to stand by him, even though the gossip on the grapevine was that he was not as successful as her.

She told Simply Her: "I'm a very affectionate and giving person, so when I decide to give me heart to someone, I will go all the way. Somehow, my eyes will have blinders and I can't see anyone else."
