SLEAZY advertisements with suggestive pictures promoting matchmaking services will no longer grace the main pages of newspapers.

Such ads can only appear in text, in the classified section of print publications. And they cannot guarantee marriages.

The Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore on Tuesday announced these changes to the Singapore Code of Advertising Practice, following concerns received last year.

Dating agencies accredited with the Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports, however, can continue to run ads with visuals in the main pages of a print publication.

The advertising standards board is also willing to consider exemptions from the new guidelines on a case-by-case basis.

Also, following concerns from the police last year, moneylenders who want to place an ad will now have to produce a copy of their moneylender's licence. Such ads will have to carry the name of the firm.
