Platus, an ancient Roman playwright once said. "A woman without paint is like food without salt".

Painted nails have also been hailed as a simple and effective way to help women to feel more confident and beautiful.
And why not? These days, even your digits are fair game for luxury pampering. Besides, getting your nails done is a wonderful excuse to catch up on some 'me time'.

This has led nail salon, Polished Divas, to introduce a slew of services to the basic manicure and pedicure. These include installing wide-screen TV sets and Ogawa massage chairs to make your visit there all the more luxurious.

The latest offering on the menu is its Spa Caviar Gourmet Manicure and Pedicure system. Incorporating anti-ageing ingredients such as Caviar extract, Marine Collage and vitamins into the manicure and pedicure, the treatment promises to leave your hands and feet feeling smooth and silky.

Why caviar? Sue, one of two partners of Polished Divas, said: "Caviar is already used in so many things, why not then in manicures and pedicures? We thought it would be very luxurious, and it even has anti-ageing qualities."

Feeling like a Queen

As I walked in, the interior of the nail lounge swept a wave of relaxation washed over me - it was an oasis of calm within the busy city centre.

Its walls are bathed in a deep red, with snazzy posters adorning its walls. Of course, the massage chairs looked the most inviting, which were available for use to customers.

Movie buffs, delight. Personal DVD players are available along with a wide range of movies and television sitcoms for your visual enjoyment. Book a group session with your girlfriends, and you can enjoy your shows over a wide-screen television. Sex! and the City is a popular favourite with the ladies, we hear.

While the massage chair worked on my sore muscles, my caviar treatment began.

My hands and feet were first cleansed with rose water, then my nails were shaped and cuticles trimmed. An exfoliating mix of caviar extract and natural oils was then gently massaged into my skin to remove any impurities.

Next, a mask containing more caviar extract, green tea, grape seed extracts and mulberry bark was applied onto my skin to deliver more moisture, fade dark spots and diminish visible signs of sun damage.

The treatment ends with a rich hydrating creme containing Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and TriniTea(TM) rubbed over my hands and feet, which provides UV protection for my skin.

The verdict: Refreshed and reinvigorated

Having caviar rubbed into your skin definitely amps up the luxury quotient. My skin felt much smoother and softer to the touch, and I did feel more confident as I showed off my beautiful dark brown nails.

But women who are starved of time should only book their treatments when they have two and a half hours to spare to fully enjoy the treat. The treatment is recommended as a weekly routine, but if nails aren't your top priority, keep this for those special occasions.

It is also priced slightly higher than normal manicures and pedicures, but is definitely a treat for those hardworking hands and feet.

The Spa Caviar Gourmet Manicure treatment is priced at $60 for hands, $75 for feet and $130 for both. Packages can also be customized to suit individual needs.

Polished Divas Nail Lounge is located at 237B Victoria Street, Bugis Village Singapore 188028. For reservations, call 6339 7646 or email enquiries@polished-divas.com.sg
